Some
people get all the toys...

| Sometimes, people buy a car, drive it, and leave it at that. Other people, like Damian, are tinkering all the time.. Damians Charade has been featured before, but since then, he has been squeezing all sorts of goodies under the hood of his Charade. A twin cam engine has now been fitted and on the dyno produces a very respectable 92kw at the front wheels, all running t 12psi. He has removed the fuel cut, using a $1 fuel cut defender from an old article by Julian Edgar. Damian credits friend Daniel |

| for manufacturing the unit, but believes that anyone could put one together if you have the confidence. The car is now running between 16 - 18psi depending on traction requirements, intercooler plumbing holes and empty radiators! A blow off | |||||||||
| valve and a sprung clutch have also been fitted. Because of the amount of grunt this baby produces, it has already broken one gearbox. The car has yet to appear at the strip, however, based on a Sammut racing calculator, it should run a conservative 14.5 second quarter on 18 psi boost. Damians not making any claims until he has a time card in his hot little hand tho The intercooler you now see in the engine bay is an MR2 GT item, which was a prick to fit and is massive. | the intercooler leaves a little to be desired, as the intercooler plumbing now goes below the front swaybar, before coming back up towards the inlet manifold. Next on Damians wish list is a three inch mandrel bent exhaust with three inch mufflers and a | |||||||||
| three inch dump pipe to replace the 2.5 inch exhaust currently in place. Water spray for the intercooler is hooked up, but Damian believes it is mainly for show, and a K/N filter hangs around where the old airbox used to be. For those that remember the fate of Melissa's car, it is being resurrected, stay tuned for the pics. As a final comment, Damian had this to say: "And no the engine bay is not supposed to be so dirty. The water cooled core of the of the turbo on my engine is fed water from the radiator. Although it is a great added cooling device | |||||||||

| for the turbocharger unit, as you cansee, it is something else that can (and has) | |||||||||
| gone wrong. The rubber pipe split this morning, and with me driving along anxiously viewing the temperature gauge as it began to climb up the increments. I was close enough to home so I gently headed back there, lifted the bonnet and here was the result. I'm hoping that the temperature gauge was fairly accurate and it didn't overheat, because I'm not keen on replacing the head gasket just yet." | |||||||||
