Murray's L502 Mira
Being Managing Director of Daihatsu New Zealand does have it's advantages. One of them is a source of cool cars that aren't meant for the NZ domestic market and another is superbly engineered upgrades for Daihatsu vehicles from Daihatsu Racing Services. Murray's lil' "Black Beauty" has received the DRS treatment with a larger turbo develops 1.4bar of puff with an HKS EVC, up from 0.7bar standard. The exhaust has also been allowed to breathe easier with
a larger 48mm diameter DRS number. As part of the DRS upgrade, "Black Beauty" also received some mighty fine suspension components including highly uprated springs with DRS rally struts manufactured by KYB. But unfortunately Murray found the stiffer suspension a mighty rough ride on the road so the DRS suspension was scrapped (Doh!!! Ed.) in favour of a custom
suspension build. Lowered springs were the order of the day and these were mated to Koni sport shocks. Up front the coil-over struts were given the adjustable platform treatment but unfortunately the rear missed out due to the Miras separate spring/shock trailing arm configuration. Inside, theres the usual creature comforts - Momo Corse steering wheel, Avanzato sport reclining seats, VDO white face boost and exhaust temperature gauges, and a
set of alloy racing pedals. The stereo system features a Kenwood fold-away head unit, 4" Panasonics in the front, and 6" Panasonic R-series in the rear parcel tray. Not exactly the killer system...but Murray's a race car driver, not a DJ!
